Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Founded in 1958, Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a large comprehensive Chinese hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research.
The hospital is the first clinical medical school of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the only institution of higher Chinese medicine in China to enter the national “211 project” construction, and has taken the lead in becoming a national model Chinese medicine hospital, a Grade 3 A Chinese medicine hospital, and a national Chinese medicine clinical research base construction unit. It is also the first national model Chinese medicine hospital, the third-grade Chinese medicine hospital, the national Chinese medicine clinical research base construction unit (three key diseases: stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetic nephropathy) and the national drug clinical trial institution recognized by the State Food and Drug Administration. It is the designated medical institution for medical insurance in Beijing, and the designated hospital for surgical rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy and treatment of precocious heart disease under the “Tomorrow Project” of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
On August 6, 2011, the former Tongzhou District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was integrated with our hospital and officially named Dongzhimen Hospital East of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The hospital pioneered the establishment of the first branch in Europe, the German Quetzolding Hospital, in 1991, which has been recorded in the history of Sino-German diplomacy as an important window for international exchange of Chinese medicine.
The hospital now consists of one hospital and two districts (the main hospital and the eastern district). At present, there are 862 open beds (574 in the main hospital and 288 in the eastern hospital). In 2011, there were 1,457,000 outpatient visits to the main hospital and 14,550 inpatient visits to the eastern hospital. In addition, in June 2011, the hospital has set up two additional practice locations at No. 3, Taiji Factory, Dongcheng District and No. 279, Dongsi Beidajie, Dongcheng District (to be opened soon).
