Ejiao
Overview: It is a solid gum made from the skin of donkeys of the horse family, which is decocted and concentrated.
It is mainly produced in Shandong and Zhejiang. It is pounded into pieces or fried with mealybug to make beads.

Pharmacognosy: Not classified yet
Taste and Attribution: Sweet, flat. It belongs to the lung, liver and kidney meridians.
Functions and Indications: Tonifying the blood, stopping bleeding, nourishing Yin and moistening dryness.
Usage and dosage: In soup, melted and taken. It is often used to stop bleeding or fried with Pu Huang, and to moisten the lungs.
Storage: Keep in a cool and dry place.
Clinical applications.
- Great Dingfengzhu (Wenzhi Zhuandian). Treatment of yin deficiency and moving wind. In the late stage of warming disease, with weak pulse, vivid tongue and little coating, sometimes with the tendency of desiccation. Radix Paeoniae Alba 18g, Colla Corii Asini 9g, Radix Tortoise Plates 12g, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata 18g, Fructus Ma Ren 6g, Fructus Schisandrae 6g, Radix Oyster 12g, Radix Madonnas 18g, Radix Glycyrrhiza Uralensis 12g, Rhizoma Polygonati 2, Rhizoma Polygonati 12g. Gum is the ruler of this formula, which nourishes Yin to quench internal wind.
- Colla Corii Asini and Chicken Root Huang Tang (Treatise on Common Cold and Fever). For the treatment of evil heat detained for a long time, deficiency of yin and blood, and internal movement of deficiency wind. Agaricus blazei 6g, Radix Paeonia lactiflora, Rhizoma lucidum 9g, Radix cassia lucidum 15g, Rhizoma double hook vine 6g, Radix et Rhizoma grandis, Radix oyster, Porcupine wood 12g, Radix chrysanthemum 2g, Rhizoma cocklebur 2. Take with water decoction. Colla Corii Asini tonifies lung yin in this formula.
- Tonifying the lung with Agaricus blazei Tang (“Pediatric Medicine Evidence Direct”). Treating children with lung deficiency and heat. Cough and asthma, dry throat, not much sputum, or blood in sputum, red tongue with little coating, thin pulse. Aconite 9g, Burdock 3g, Licorice 1.5g, Aristolochia 6g, Almond 6g, Glutinous Rice 6g, finely powdered, decocted with water and taken warm after meals. Aconite is sweet, flat and sticky, nourishing Yin, tonifying the lung, nourishing blood and stopping bleeding, and is the ruling herb.
